1. A Beautiful Butterfly by Mikiko Nakamoto
This is a great book for teaching children about colors and foods. Babies love the friendly face of the caterpillar in this story. It’s fun to guess what food he will eat next! This book works really well with I See Something Blue/Pink and Are You Hungry from Super Simple Songs CD #1.
2. Where is Baby’s Belly Button? by Karen Katz
As babies mature, they want to a more interactive role during story time. Karen Katz’s lift-the-flap books are great for little ones who love to play peek-a-boo. I especially like using Where is Baby’s Belly Button? with our youngest students. Parents can have a great time reading this to their children, too. For added fun, parents can look for their own child’s eyes, nose, and toes as they read through the story. Babies can’t help but giggle as you look for their belly buttons!
3. 10 Little Ladybugs by Melanie Gerth and Laura Huliska-Beith
This beautifully illustrated book is great for holding babies’ interests. The three dimensional ladybugs on each page give babies something to touch and explore. 10 Little Ladybugs is also a storybook that can last throughout childhood. As students mature, they become interested in the rhyming story and counting backwards from ten.
4. Peek-a-Boo Forest by Tomy (Lamaze Cloth Book)
This book is a great first book for babies. Each page includes a bright, colorful animal to discover under crinkly pages. Babies will love the feeling of this book and the sounds it makes as they lift the flap on each page. The book’s soft, washable material also makes it safe for babies who are still putting everything in their mouths!
